Public associations

     As of January 1, 2024, 1973 public associations and 19 trade unions were registered in the Republic of Belarus.


In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Belarus dated February 14, 2023 «On the Fundamentals of Civil Society», the Ministry of Justice classifies the following civil society entities that have the right to interact with government agencies (organizations) in special forms: the Republican Public Association «Belaya Rus», the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans, the Public Association «Belarusian Republican Youth Union», the Public Association «Belarusian Union of Women» and the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus.

Special forms of interaction between government agencies (organizations) and civil society entities are:

  • election of delegates to the All-Belarusian People's Assembly in accordance with the procedure prescribed by law;

  • holding meetings with the population, work collectives, direct telephone lines, dialogue platforms, public receptions, visiting receptions of citizens in order to collect and develop proposals for discussion at the All-Belarusian People's Assembly;

  • participation in the implementation of decisions of the All-Belarusian People's Assembly.

The Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (FPB) is a single national trade union center, a republican voluntary independent association of industry trade unions with a total membership of about 4 million people.

The Republican public association «Belaya Rus» has more than 225 thousand people in its ranks. The association includes 6 regional, Minsk city, 148 district, city and district organizations in cities, as well as 13 organizations based on the production principle. The number of primary organizations is more than 8.6 thousand.

The youth movement is actively developing in Belarus. The largest and most influential of the organizations are the Belarusian Republican Youth Union (BRSM) and the Belarusian Republican Pioneer Organization.

BRSM unites over 360 thousand young men and women, the pioneer organization has more than 620 thousand children and teenagers in its ranks.

Veteran, women's and sports organizations take an active part in the public life of the country. There are about 350 charitable organizations operating in Belarus, 85 organizations unite representatives of national minorities.
